Grandma
Grandma, to me you were the sunrise,
Morning mist of the grey-blue sea glistened in your eyes.
Two blue, sparkling jewels, of the sea, veiled beneath
golden lashes like rays of the early morning sun.
Of the gifts given to me in life, you are among my most
treasured ones.
Your warmth had shined upon the earth long before I had
taken my very first breath.
The light of your life will beam forever in my heart, it
cannot be extinguished by death.
For nearly one hundred years you rose with the sun,
Now you rest in eternal slumber, night has come.
A flicker of life, a miracle of God; two tiny chambers
began to beat.
And for a century, your loving heart so generous and sweet,
an angel from God to all whom you would meet.
Last I saw you, the light of your face shadowed in death,
but I look to the newborn child in her mother’s arms beside you, her life is
new breath.
I look to my son and see his eyes dancing and bright,
They are veiled in
sunlit lashes and I see your light.
God has called you home, home is where you must be,
I take comfort in knowing the light of your love burns on
for me.
